McQueen wrote the script withGone Girlauthor Gillian Flynn. This is Flynn’s second script, having also adaptedGone Girlfor director David Fincher. That cast, plus McQueen and Flynn is a hard-to-beat pedigree, makingWidowsone the year’s most anticipated films.
Widowsreunites McQueen with12 Years A Slaveproducer and financier New Regency. “Steve was interested in doing his own version of a gangster film,“saidNew Regency president and CEO Brad Weston. “It felt fresh to him to combine a contemporary, hard-hitting, very grounded gangster movie with four strong female characters. We loved it because that’s who Steve is.
