Watch Red Letter Media’s Takedown Of ‘Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull’
Find a barrel. Fill with water, drop in fish. Then point shotgun and shoot. That’s the general process of taking down the fourth Indiana Jones movie, but that’s not going to stop Red Letter Media, which has already served up feature-length review/deconstructions of theStar Wars prequels. And despite the fact that these four films are four of the easiest smackdown targets in mainstream cinema, there are still some smart observations to be made aboutIndiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. As in theStar Warsreviews, there’s an aspect to the Harry Pinkett review personality that is dumb and distracting. This time it does pretty far — if you don’t want to sit through a really awful joke (I think it’s a joke?) about jerking off to Olsen twins movies, then skip the first six minutes of part one. You won’t miss any interesting dissection of the film, and you won’t want to wash your eyes.
Given that the review makes a great many comments about things feeling forced inIndy 4, I’m a little surprised the dumb sexual deviant/serial killer schtick has really gone this far. I’d like to think this is attempt at reinforcing criticisms of Indy 4 as being an over-worked movie, but I don’t really believe that.
Anyway. As in theStar Warsreviews there is a lot of good, simple analysis here, and most of it makes sense outside the general outcry of “the movie sucked!” You’ll even find a defense ofShia LaBeouf, which is a stand most people aren’t going to take.
