‘Thor: The Dark World’ Reshoots Give More Screen Time To Loki
If that thunderous reception inHall Hwas any indication, Loki, the villain ofThorandThe Avengers, is every bit as popular as any of Marvel’s do-gooders. Unfortunately, since he’s not a hero, there doesn’t seem to be much place for him inThe Avengers: Age of Ultron. Even Tom Hiddleston hasadmittedthat his character has nothing else to “contribute toThe Avengers, narratively.”
ButAlan Taylorhas heard the cries for more Loki, and is happy to fill that need inThor: The Dark World. The director revealed in a recent interview that the film is now going in for reshoots, not because they messed up the first time but because they want to give the trickster god more screentime. Hit the jump to see what he said.
We’re literally shooting some things this week.Anthony Hopkinsis back in town, we’re going to be getting some stuff from him. We continue to, whatKevin Feigecalls “plus” the movie.
Among other things, Taylor says, they wanted to add more Loki.
We’re doing full scenes, scenes that were not in the movie before. We’re adding scenes, creating scenes, writing scenes for the first time. […] We realized how well Loki was working in the movie, and we wanted to do more with him. So it was that kind of thing. It was like, ‘Oh, we could do this, we could jam this in here because he’s such a wonderful guy to watch do his stuff.’
Substantial reshoots sometimes indicate a troubled production, but Taylor assures fans that’s not the case here. “It’s not like you screwed something up and you have to do it again,” he explains. “It’s additional photography because it’s, ‘oh, what if you had a scene like this? Then you could make that happen over there!'” One of the new bits will be what Taylor describes as “a fun, connective scene” that was shot in Manhattan Beach, California.
