‘The Guest’ Trailer #2: Dan Stevens Fights Expectations In Slick Thriller

There’s a fun, exciting, kinetic action movie opening next month calledThe Guest. Written bySimon Barrettand directed byAdam Wingard(the guys behindYou’re Next),The GueststarsDan Stevens(Downton Abbey) as a recently discharged soldier who visits the family of one of his fallen comrades. It’s a nice gesture and things start off well enough. Slowly, however, it becomes very obvious this guy is not who he seems. A trail of violence follows in his path and eventually the family will come to realize the truth about their son and their guest.

The Guestopens September 17. Whilea teaser trailerwas out earlier this summer, now the full one is out. WatchThe Guesttrailer below.

The Guest trailer

I was lucky enough to be in the audience for the world premiere of The Guest at Sundance earlier this year and really enjoyed it a lot. Here’s a short excerpt from my review, which you canread in full here:

Barrett’s script and Wingard’s editing are incredibly tight. The movie moves along at a brisk pace. While the film doesn’t really kick into action mode for 30 minutes, we remain interested thanks to David’s sheer unpredictability, and some silly yet menacing sound effects. The score, bySteve Moore(of the bandZombi), also drives the movie along with style. It’s pure, catchy synthesizer heaven. A throwback to the ’70s and ’80s but with the feeling of Drive and Grand Theft Auto from the equipment used by John Carpenter. It tells the audience while what we are seeing might seem dramatic, it’s supposed to be fun.And it is fun. Tense, high-energy scenes at high schools, parties, and even a rock quarry make the audience wonder what could possibly happen next. As David’s story is slowly revealed, everything turns up a notch and that methodical first third is balanced with a batshit crazy finale. The Guestopens on a limited basis September 17. Thanks toYahoo Moviesfor the trailer.
