Rumor: Disney Working On New ‘Tron’ Video Game
The words “Tron” and “video game” are about as synonymous as “Marvel” and “comic book.“Tron, of course, is the 1982 Disney film, by Steven Lisberger, which was directly influenced by video games. It’s basically about a man who goes into a game, and the first film spawned several games and then, a few decades later, a sequel that took the idea even further. More games then came out of that sequel.
While fans patiently wait for a third film that will probably never happen, it seems like a newTronvideo game may be on the way. In an interview with Oscar-winning songwriter and composerGiorgio Moroder, he says he’s going to be working with electronic music producerSkrillexon the music for a newTronvideo game. Read more below.
The news came from an interview with Moroder atClash Music, found byAin’t It Cool News. Here’s the quote:
…Giorgio has been recruited to provide the soundtrack for the upcoming ‘Tron’ video game – something which could involve a certain EDM heavyweight. “I’m going to meet Skrillex next week when I’m back. I’m doing the music for a game for Disney’s ‘Tron’. We have about five themes, electronic stuff and let’s see if he’s interested in remixing or re-working one of the songs.
AICN goes on to note thatTronhas recently been added toDisney Infinity 2.0(as seen in the image at the top of this pieceand this link) so hypothetically, it could be that. But since that’s just an addition, which might not need need “five themes” and all this other stuff.
When we asked Disney Interactive for comment on this story we were told, “Disney Interactive is not making any comment at this time. For the latest official news and announcements about Disney Interactive and its products, please visitwww.disneyinteractive.com.” Of course, that makes sense. If this is happening, they won’t want to reveal anything official until they’re good and ready. But it’s not a denial.
Tronhas always been a good video game idea in theory but most of the various iterations have failed to live up to their potential. Do you think this is actually happening? And, if so, based on the super-talented people possibly working on this newTronvideo game, will it be the best yet?
