TheSuper Troopersare back, and they’re recycling jokes! After a long 17-year hiatus, the comedy troupeBroken Lizardhave returned with a sequel to their most popular film. Now there’s a brand new red bandSuper Troopers 2trailer with all the pratfalls, dead bald eagles and culture-clash jokes you may stand!
Super Trooperswas one of those cult comedies that came from seemingly nowhere. The film didn’t have very big stars (except, of course,Brian Cox, the biggest star of all), and there seemed to be very little buzz surrounding the flick. Yet it became a sleeper hit, and its popularity grew even stronger once it hit home video. Fans wanted more – they wanted aSuper Troopers 2, gosh darn it. And while Broken Lizard, the comedy troupe responsible for the film, went off and did other movies –Beer League,Club Dread–Super Troopers 2remained an unrealized dream. Until now! Well…that was…something. Hey, I loved the originalSuper Troopers. It was one of those rare laugh-out-loud funny comedies – endlessly quotable and easy to revisit. ButSuper Trooperscame out in 2001, which was alongtime ago. What I’m saying is, I fear the time for aSuper Troopers 2has come and gone. There’s actually some precedent for this reasoning:Dumb and Dumber To, the long-awaitedDumb and Dumbersequel, hit theaters after a long hiatus, and it wasterrible. Any magic the original film had evaporated into thin air.
This trailer certainly doesn’t give me much encouragement; the only joke here I even slightly smiled at was a moment whereRob Loweshouts, “Great Tim Hortons' ghost!” Of course,Super Troopers 2might prove the exception to the rule. Maybe the team will be able to rekindle what make the first film so damn funny, and even improve on it. Anything is possible. I guess. Here’s the officialSuper Troopers 2synopsis.
