‘Reboot,’ A Sitcom About Sitcom Reboots, Will Star Keegan-Michael Key And Johnny Knoxville

Keegan-Michael KeyandJohnny Knoxvillewill be teaming up for a new streaming series fromModern Familyco-creatorSteve Levitan.According to Deadline, Hulu has picked up the comedy pilotReboot,about a comedy show reboot, with the two actors tapped to star.

A Major Showrunner Heads to Streaming

Rebootis a meta-comedy inspired by the recent wave of comedy revivals. (Seriously, we’re looking at a possibleFrasierrevival at Paramount+, aMacGruberseries for Peacock, an HBO MaxSex and the Cityrevival, and anAlly McBealreboot possibly in the works.) InReboot, Hulu reboots an early 2000s family sitcom, forcing its dysfunctional cast back together. They’re forced to deal with their unresolved issues while still putting together a decent show for the fans.

Levitan co-wrote the pilot script withiZombiescribeJohn Enbom, based on a story by Levitan. They will executive produce with frequent Enbom collaboratorDanielle Stokydyk.The series will be produced by 20th Television, where Levitan is under an overall deal. He is only the latest powerhouse broadcast showrunner to make the jump to streaming. After all,Scrubsco-creator Bill Lawrence is the man behind Apple TV+’s hitTed Lasso,Two and a Half Mencreator Chuck Lorre is behindDisjointedandThe Kominsky Methodat Netflix, andFriendsco-creator Marta Kauffman hasGrace and Frankie, also at Netflix.

ABC’sModern Family, which Levitan has co-run for 11 seasons alongside Christopher Lloyd,has won five consecutive Emmys for Outstanding Comedy Series. Levitan also created and executive produced the NBC comedyJust Shoot Me!,starring David Spade.

Key and Knoxville: a Perfect Comedy Pairing?

Both Key and Knoxville have unique comedic styles, so it should be fun to watch these two throw down as former co-stars.
