POTD: 116 Cinematic Talents Celebrate 100 Years Of Paramount

Paramount’s been having a lot of fun celebrating its 100th birthday, unveilinga sleek new logoanda stylish posterdesigned by DKNG. Their latest stunt is pulling together 116 of their best and brightest talents from the past century — fromAlejandro González IñárritutoZoe Saldana— for a massive class photo. Why 116 and not an even 100? I have no idea, but I bet they could’ve whittled it down if they hadn’t included like every character fromJ.J. Abrams’Star Trek. Check it out after the jump.

Okay, so the Photoshop starts to look a bit off it you look too closely — the eerie lack of shadows and the fact that not one person out of 116 is blinking or yawning suggests this is a composite rather than a single shot. But it’s still an effective reminder of the wonderful work the studio has done over the century.Vanity Fairreally has pulled together a fantastic mix rising stars and established icons, covering every type of movie from low-budget horror to family comedy, award-winning drama to action tentpole.

What’s really fun, though, is to (over)analyze is who’s sitting where. Some of the positioning is obvious.Chris PineandZachary Quintoare side-by-side, as areJon FavreauandRobert Downey Jr.,Olivia Newton-JohnandJohn Travolta,Ryan O’NealandAli McGraw, andMolly RingwaldandJon Cryer.

But does that mean there’s a reasonTransformersalumsShia LaBeouf,Megan Fox, andRosie Huntington-Whiteleyare standing in totally different parts of the photograph? Or why frownyMark Wahlbergis standing all by himself? And is it just me, or does everyone look unimpressed byJustin Bieber? Other times, the randomness seems to suggest a good story — I’d love to know whatErnest Borgnine,Billy Dee Williams, andJohn Chotalked about during the shoot.
