‘November’ Trailer: A Gorgeous, Feverish Blend Of Fantasy And Horror

What isNovember? It’s a lot of things: a gorgeous black and white fantasy film; a recreation of some unsettling folklore; a movie full of magic and horror. Yet running down a list of descriptions still isn’t enough to adequately describeNovember, a new film from Rainer Sarnet, soon to be released by Oscilloscope Laboratories. I watchedNovembera few months ago, and I’mstillnot quite sure what to make of it. But don’t take my word for it, take a look at the trailer and see for yourself.

Here’s an example: in the first five minutes alone, a sort-of-demon made out of various farm tools, with a cow skull for a head, bursts into a barn and steals a cow. The demon uses its various tool-limbs as helicopter blades, and flies above the landscape, towing the cow with it.Novemberonly gets weirder from there. Here’s the synopsis:
In this tale of love and survival in 19th century Estonia, peasant girl Liina longs for village boy Hans, but Hans is inexplicably infatuated by the visiting German baroness that possesses all that he longs for. For Liina, winning Hans' requited love proves incredibly complicated in this dark, harsh landscape where spirits, werewolves, plagues, and the devil himself converge, where thievery is rampant, and where souls are highly regarded, but come quite cheap. While there are horror elements on display inNovember, I don’t know if I’d classify it as a horror movie. Honestly, I don’t knowwhatI’d classify this movie as; it’s an enigma. That said,Novemberis one of the best looking films I’ve seen in a while, with gorgeous, stark black and white cinematography that will take your breath away.
