Mitch Hurwitz And Maria Bamford Reunite For Netflix Comedy Series ‘Lady Dynamite’

While we wait for Netflix andMitch Hurwitzto deliver another season ofArrested Development, they’ve got a little something else brewing withArrested Developmentco-starMaria Bamford. Netflix has just picked upLady Dynamite, a new original series executive produced by Hurwitz and starring Bamford. THRreports Netflix has ordered 13 episodes ofLady Dynamite. The half-hour single-camera comedy will be “based on what Bamford has accepted to be ‘her life.'” The “occasionally surreal” series will cover various periods from Bamford’s life to tell the tale of “a woman who loses — and then finds — her s**t.“Pam Bradywill serve as showrunner. She wrote the pilot with Bamford and both will executive produce with Hurwitz. Brady is best known for her work onSouth Park. Her other credits includeJust Shoot Me!,The Loop, andNeighbors From Hell.

Bamford appeared inArrested DevelopmentSeason 4 as recovering addict / Tobias Fünke love interest DeBrie Bardeaux. She’s coming off of a recurring role on the short-lived USA comedyBenched, and has done voice work for shows likeThe Legend of KorraandAdventure Time.

In addition, Bamford is one of the most acclaimed standup comedians working today. Her eccentric humor walks a fine line between hilarious and heartbreaking, and she often tackles deeply personal, uncomfortable topics like mental illness in her act.Lady Dynamitepromises to be a unique addition to Netflix’s existing comedy slate which also includesOrange Is the New BlackandUnbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

Hurwitz signed a multiyear deal with Netflix last year to develop new shows for the company. BesidesLady Dynamite, he’s also executive producingFlaked, an upcoming comedy series starringArrested Development’s Will Arnett.

And speaking ofArrested Development, Hurwitz is expected to return for the fifth season. While Netflix hasn’t formally announced more episodes of the sitcom cult hit, producer Brian Grazer recently revealed that the plan was to shoot Season 5 in January or February for release sometime next year.
