Michael Douglas' Amazing Voice May Return For ‘Ant-Man 2’
There’s a lot of exposition and setup inAnt-Man. Most superhero origin stories take their sweet time getting their hero into the costume, and this Marvel film also had to build up to that third-act heist. One of the reasons why all that information wasn’t a slog to watch was because ofMichael Douglas. His charming presence — and his amazing voice — makes the exposition go down smoothly.
Thankfully, he’s returning forAnt-Man 2, titledAnt-Man and the Wasp. Learn more about Michael Douglas returning for Ant-Man 2 after the jump.
Some actors are hesitant to sign a contract with Marvel, since they generally require actors to appear in seven or eight movies. What if they get sick of playing the character by film no. 4? Michael Douglas actually didn’t sign one of those contracts, onlyattaching himselfto the firstAnt-Man.
I’m not signed up to anything more. I’ve learned a whole lot and would look forward to more if it comes my way but if not I’ve enjoyed the experience. Now that I understand a bit more about Hank Pym too. I think in this one I had to carry a lot of plot and exposition. In the next one I hope things get a little more bizarre… the Quantum Realm!
Ant-Man and the Waspwill most likely further explore the good doctor’s relationship with the Quantum Realm. Pym had some misconceptions about the Quantum Realm and, in the sequel, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him grow obsessed with it.
Speaking toCollider, Douglas revealed negations are underway for his return:
I just got a call recently — they want to negotiate for a sequel and I thought ‘That’s great!’ Hopefully, I won’t have to carry quite as much expositional dialogue as the first one but I had a wonderful time doing it. Just a great, great time. The cast was fantastic.Paul[Rudd],Evangeline[Lilly],Michael Peña– I’m sure he’ll be back. If they can scrapeCorey Stolloff the wall, I’m sure they’ll want him too — he’s such a good villain. AndPeyton Reedtoo. It was a lovely experience, so you know, I welcome it. I chuckle about being involved with a movie that already has a release date in 2018. Ya know, it’s hard to conceive of that, but it’s all good, all the way around, it’s all good.
Director Peyton Reed is indeedcoming backfor round two. For the sequel, I hope they put Michael Peña and Michael Douglas in more scenes together. They both have very different comedic energies in the first film, and it’d be great to see the two of them bounce off each other more.
Ant-Man and the Waspwill open in theaters onJuly 5th, 2018.
