‘Jurassic World 2’ Is Going Underwater With A Submarine Sequence
I knowJurassic Worldhas a lot of haters, but I’m holding out hope that directorJ.A. Bayonawill be able to deliver a sequel that improves on its predecessor.Jurassic World 2already has one element that the previous movie didn’t: the one and onlyJeff Goldblumreturning as Dr. Ian Malcolm. But this movie will also feature something no other movie in the franchise has done before: an underwater action scene set in a submarine. Read what we know about theJurassic World 2underwater scene below.
ScreenRantpointed us to an interviewManagement in Stage Film and Televisionconducted with up-and-coming actorKevin Layne(Showtime’sGuerilla), who landed a role inJurassic World 2. Layne explained the character he’ll be playing and hinted at what’s to come:
That’s admittedly not much to go on, but an “epic” submarine-based scene sounds like a fun new moment for theJurassicfranchise. The terrifying Mosasaurus (pictured above) played a key role inJurassic World, so maybe we’ll be seeing that creature again soon from a whole new perspective.
Or better yet: Layne’s character gathers a couple supporting players on his submarine early on and heads away from an abandoned Isla Nublar with a couple of surviving dinosaurs locked in a cargo hold. They set out to a mysterious location, and we don’t see them again for an hour, when we return to the sub and we suddenly see it burst through an icy surface in Russia, flipping speeding cars out of its way in the process. Yep, you guessed it: they’re in the climactic moments ofThe Fate of the Furious, finally tying those two franchises togetherjust as we suggested.
Of course, considering what happens to that sub inFate, this would be the last we’d see of Layne’s character…but maybe those dinos in the cargo bay somehow survive, andFast 9could serve as a full-blown crossover between the two. Hey, a guy can dream, can’t he?
