Don’t Expect To See Much Of The Mad Titan Thanos In ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy 2’

Ever sinceThanoswas revealed in the mid-credits scene forThe Avengers, fans have been waiting to see just what kind of havoc the comic book villain was going to wreak in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The character finally appeared again inGuardians of the Galaxy, voiced byJosh Brolin, but he pretty much just did a lot of sitting and threatening while everyone else did his work for him. Plus, he hasn’t gotten ahold of any of the Infinity Stones. He even lost the one he already had in his possession, giving it away to Loki.

But as the credits scene forThe Avengers: Age of Ultronteased, we’re on the verge of Thanos taking matters into his own hands now. However, according toKevin Feige, that doesn’t mean we’re going to see the Mad Titan pop up inGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Speaking with Empire (viaCBM), the Marvel chief came right out and said:

I wouldn’t look too hard in that movie for Thanos. The next time we see Thanos he will not be messing around. It will be, ‘Oh, that’s why they’ve been teasing this villain for five years!’

So it sounds like we won’t see Thanos again until he comes to Earth with the Infinity Gauntlet and all the Infinity Stones and starts destroying things in one of the installments ofThe Avengers: Infinity War. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if Thanos doesn’t get all the stones until the climax ofInfinity War – Part I, beats some of our heroes to a pulp, and ends the film on a cliffhanger. Or maybe the cliffhanger will be him actually getting all the stones and thenInfinity War – Part IIis when he really lays into The Avengers.

As of now, I’m just curious as to how he’s going to gather all the Infinity Stones himself and whether we’ll see that all happen on screen. Maybe the entirety ofInfinity War – Part Iis about him tracking all the stones down and various heroes trying to stop him. One might think that’s something that could be explained in credits scenes, but Feige just said that the next time we see Thanos, he wouldn’t be messing around. And if we’re not going to see Thanos inGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, then I doubt they’re going to waste something like that in a credits scene either.

However,Thor: Ragnarokis coming up soon, so perhaps there’s a chance Thanos starts his Infinity Stones quest at Asgard where the Tesseract is being kept safe. If there’s anything that could bring devastation to Asgard, it’s Thanos. I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see how the next few years play out in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
