Die Hard 24/7 And Fantastic Four Reborn?

Ain’t It Coolhas heard from their sources (which I assume must be embedded in 20th Century Fox) that the upcomingDie Hard 5will be titledDie Hard 24/7and the in developmentFantastic Fourreboot might be titledFantastic Four Reborn. And if the title wasn’t completely clear, Harry also confirms that the Fantastic Four movie will be a “complete reboot”.  Two horrible titles if you ask me, but they could very well change (lets hope so). What do you think?Previously:Fantastic Four Reboot

The Fantastic Four reboot was announced on the same day that Disneyrevealedthat they would be acquiring Marvel.Akiva Goldsmanwas hired to produce a newFantastic Fourfilm, a complete reboot.Michael Green, a producer/writer forSmallville, EverwoodandHeroes(ugh…) who co-wrote the upcoming big screen adaptation ofThe Green Lantern, has been hired to write the movie. No other details are known at this time, as Fox has not commented about its plans.

Fantastic Four

One can only hope that Fox takes a cue from the recent superhero films (The Dark Knighton one extreme, and Iron Man andThe Incredible Hulkon the other) and allows a less corny take on the series. I’d likely be happier with a film even if they took a slightly more adult (yet still comic) tone of a film like Sam Raimi’sSpider-Man 2.

Goldsman got his start in Hollywood as a screenwriter, and at one point wrote the badBatmanmovies (Forever and Batman & Robin). More recently he has made the transition into producer of such films as I Am Legend, Hancock, and the upcoming comic book films Jonah Hex and The Losers.

Die Hard

Die Hard 5

20th Century FoxhiredSkip Woodsto writeDie Hard 5. Woods is the screenwriter behindSwordfishandHitman, and one of the writers onX-Men Origins: Wolverineand the upcomingA-Teammovie. No information has been released on a possible storyline for the fifth installment, butBruce Willishas said that it would have to expand in scope and go “worldwide”.

This comes afterBruce Willismade claimsat the Cop Out junket in New York City that not only would he like to do another Die Hard film, but “I think we’re going to do a ‘Die Hard 5’ next year.” It is now one step closer to being possible.

Willis has also said that the series needs to expand in scope. The original film had John McClane “trapped in a building”, inDie Harderhe was “trapped in an airport”,Die Hard With a Vengeanceexpanded the scope to “New York City” andLive Free or Die Hardexpanded the threat to the United States. So as you might have guessed it, Willis says the fifth film would have to go further: “Well it’s got to go worldwide.”

I completely disagree. I think one of the things that madeDie Hardsuch a great action film was the containment of the story in one building.Die Hard with a Vengenceworked, but on an entirely different level (and to be fair, it wasn’t even written as a Die Hard script). Live Free or Die Hard suffered from the expansion in scope. It’s harder to believe that one guy can save the whole country, without huge help from the police or government agencies. If they do make a fifth Die Hard film, I’d love to seem them bring it back in a bit, contain it in a small location, and bring it back to a character-driven plot where the stakes are more personal.

Could the story work with McClane stuck overseas? Maybe. It would be easy to set him as the American who the Foreign government doesn’t care to work for…
