Could ‘Doctor Strange’ And ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2’ Have An Interdimensional Connection?

About a week ago, directorJames Gunnpointed our attentionto a piece of newGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2concept art which showed the ragtag team of space criminals turned heroes for hire. Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Rocket Raccoon and the infant-sized Groot could be seen jumping through the air facing off against a terrifying, tentacled creature.

Now a new detail about the creature in question hints at the possibility of some kind of interdimensional connection with this fall’s release ofDoctor Strange. Find out what James Gunn said about the creature known as an abelisk after the jump and how it might connect to the Sorcerer Supreme after the jump, but beware of some potentialspoilers.

Doctor Strange LEGO Set

The hint of aDoctor StrangeGuardians of the Galaxy 2connection comes from the fact that James Gunn explained in a recentFacebook Q&Athat the abelisk is “a multidimensional being” and as evidenced by the photo, “The Guardians have been hired to fight him.” However, could there be a chance that the Guardians of the Galaxy aren’t the only Marvel heroes this creature has encountered?

A little while back, the firstDoctor StrangeLEGO set was revealed to be the Sorcerer Supreme’s Sanctum Sanctorum. In addition to the minifigures of Doctor Strange, Baron Mordo and The Ancient One, there’s a tentacled creature coming through a portal. Check it out:

The LEGO set box merely describes the creature as “a portal beast with rotating teeth, moving eyes and tentacles.” When you compare the LEGO version of the beast to theGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2concept art, there are some clear differences, though they both have a bunch of teeth and tentacles. There could be a chance the design of the creature changed between production of the LEGO set and the movie, but we likeComingSoon’s idea of this creature possibly being one in the same.

Keep in mind that not everything that we see in LEGO sets inspired by Marvel movies ends up in the movie though. But since things such as Giant-Man appearing in the airport brawl inCaptain America: Civil Warwere first noticed in LEGO sets for the movie, it’s possible for at least some kind of creature to be in the final cut ofDoctor Strange.

Even if the abelisk isn’t the same portal beast featured in theDoctor StrangeLEGO set, the fact that it’s described as a multidimensional being still allows for the possibility for it to be part of bothDoctor StrangeandGuardians of the Galaxy 2. As we know,Doctor Strangedeals with the exploration of other dimensions, so the creature could easily make an appearance at some point. In fact, this creature could even pop up inThor: Ragnaroksince a lot of that film takes place in outer space as well.

This is all just guesswork and speculation, but the interconnection of the Marvel cinematic universe makes it easily possible. We’ll find out if the abelisk has multiple appearances in Marvel movies over the next year and a half or so.Doctor Strangearrives onNovember 4whileGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2hits theaters onMay 5, 2017andThor: RagnarokonNovember 3, 2017.
