‘Bridesmaids’ Sequel Possible Says Director Paul Feig
It’s no secret thatwe here at /Film loveBridesmaids. And though commentson some of our articlesdon’t exactly share our sentiment, a number two spot at the box office on opening weekend and a very strong mid-week gross, even beating outThor, tends to suggest that most of America agrees with our adoration. Now, according to directorPaul Feig, if the film continues to experience the kind of success it’s currently enjoying, not only is a sequel very much a possibility, they’ve talked about it. Read exactly what he said after the jump.
Feig was beinginterviewed by Vultureabout the film’s surprising (to some) opening weekend success when he was asked about the sequel:
Who knows? I mean, it depends how we do in the next couple weeks, but I know there’s definitely … it’s already been brought up. So, um, you know, when you get a group that’s this deep and this good, it’s a crime to not use them again. You just want to ensure that you do it as well as you did the first one and try to make it better, even. So, we’re up for the challenge.
StarMelissa McCarthywas with him and echoed those thoughts:
I will show up wherever these guys tell me to go. If it’s a play in their backyard, I will gladly do it. I’ll do kids' parties for them, I’ll do bar mitzvahs; I’m in.
Part of the joy ofBridesmaidswasn’t the actual wedding story line, it was the interaction of the characters and the chemistry of the actresses. Plus, in the scheme of things, not too much was actually accomplished storywise in the film, nor was there much character development. They aren’t beholden to any kind of gimmick either (coughThe Hangovercough). So ifKristen Wiigand screenwriting partnerAnnie Mumolocome up with an idea, get everyone back together and Feig and Apatow are on board? Why the hell not? In fact, I think I might just pay to see the movie again to help make this happen.
