Armageddon Honest Trailer: Michael Bay Directed The Movie Equivalent Of Taco Bell
With the natural disaster thrillerSan Andreason the way to theaters this weekend (watch the latest trailer here), there’s no better time to take a look at another film that threatened humanity on a massive scale.Armageddonhad plenty of mass destruction on Earth before sending a team of oil drillers and astronauts to the surface of an asteroid to blow it up. And nowHonest Trailershas drilled into what they callMichael Bay’s last fun movie, full of plenty of explosions and clock-ticking.

Since this is a Michael Bay movie, there’s plenty of nitpicking about the director’s bombastic style. After all, have their even been this many explosions in the vacuum of space? And just how often do astronauts all walk in a straight line? And why the hell do they have chain guns? Don’t even get me started on the irony of the fact that Michael Bay has a cameo in the film as someone who works at NASA. There’s your evidence as to why the space program is what it is today.
The best portion of this Honest Trailer (besides the much better title ofDrill Hard) is the use of actual commentary from the DVD release ofArmageddon. In the commentary,Ben Afflecktalks about asking Michael Bay why it was easier to train oil drillers to become astronauts instead of training astronauts to drill. Bay’s response? He tells Affleck to “shut the f*ck up.”
However, my biggest complaint aboutArmageddonisn’t mentioned in this Honest Trailer. In the movie, NASA says the asteroid heading towards Earth is the size of Texas. The only way to stop it is to haveBruce Willisand his crew drill to the center of the asteroid and drop a nuke in the center to blow it up and have the two massive pieces completely miss Earth. However, this crew only has to drill 800 feet in order to hit the “center” of the asteroid. How the hell is 800 feet the center of an asteroid thesize of Texas? Michael Bay probably wants me to shut the f*ck up too.
