2018 Independent Spirit Awards Winners: ‘Get Out’ Wins The Night
With the Oscars just around the corner, it’s almost time to wrap up awards season. But before Hollywood has its biggest night, theIndependent Spirit Awardsalways take the time to honor some of the smaller, indie movies. In this case, some of these movies have already made quite a run during awards season, were distributed by a major studio and ended up with a bunch of Oscar nominations, but they were also independently financed.
The 2018 Independent Spirit Awards winners were announced Saturday night, andGet Outcame away with the big prize for Best Feature. In addition,Jordan Peelewon Best Director. There has been some speculation that Get Out could end up winning Best Picture at the Oscars this weekend, but Three Billboards and The Shape of Water are still looming large in that race. The predictions are too close to make a definitive call, so it’ll be interesting to see who wins Best Picture tomorrow. This Indie Spirit win could bode well for Get Out, but even if it doesn’t win Best Picture, the movie has already become a certified hit and will undoubtedly become a modern classic.
